Lawra (UW/R), Oct. 26, GNA – Elected executives in the just ended constituency executive elections of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been called upon to maintain internal cohesion and work together after the polls to strengthen the party, particularly at the grassroots.
Ms. Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC in charge of Finance and Administration, made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Lawra, during the party’s Lawra Constituency election, held at the Lawra Senior High School.
The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, who is seeking re-election, was in the Upper West Region to oversee the ongoing constituency elections of the party.
Ms. Asamoah stressed that unity between successful and unsuccessful aspirants was essential to the party’s collective interest and success.
She commended the aspirants, delegates and party supporters for the peaceful atmosphere at the polling centre, which she said demonstrated the commitment of party members to the party’s internal democratic processes.
“So far, everything is under control and peaceful. All the aspirants are interacting with each other, and that is what we expect to see”, Ms. Asamoah said.
She said the party prioritised transparency and a free and fair electoral process throughout the exercise to encourage unsuccessful aspirants to accept the results and work with the winners for the party’s collective interest.
She said that was because when the aspirants were satisfied that the electoral process had been conducted fairly, it became easier for them to accept the outcome and reunite after the contest.
Ms. Asamoah expressed contentment with the general conduct of the elections in the constituencies she had visited and commended all stakeholders for their roles in delivering a peaceful election.
