The Dabiwhene said an effective and long-term strategy had been formulated with the Queen mother and other sub-chiefs of the town to help the youth to secure employment and contribute to the socio-economic advancement of the area.

This was because, Nana Awudzi noted, it would not be difficult for the youth to contribute financially and materially to support development projects in the town, if majority of them were gainfully employed.

Nana Awudzi made this known when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people to mark the 2026 ‘Stool Feasting’ festival at Ekroful in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.

He said the youth must be empowered through education and other skill training to help them become economically stronger in order to assist infrastructural development to make the town a  better  place to live.

On the Stool Feasting festival, Nana Awudzi said the custom and tradition instituted by their forefathers who came to settle the town some years ago, needed to be continued in remembrance of chiefs and elders who had departed into eternity.

The Chief of Ekroful urged the youth to avail themselves and aggressively pursue higher education, adding that education was the essential key to poverty reduction.

Nana Awudzi advised the youth to take their studies seriously and stop wasting long hours browsing on internet to look for quick money which was a recipe to face the consequences in future.

The chief cautioned the youth to distance themselves from hard drugs and other social vices that could affect lifestyle financially.

He also appealed to the government to support the youth with employment to reduce poverty among them.

Nana Ekua Ahema Sika Pa II, Queen mother of Gomoa Ekroful and Dabiwhemaa of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area said, together with Nana Abban Awudzi, an advocacy programme on teenage pregnancy initiated had been intensified and this had drastically helped reduce the phenomenon.

The Queen mother said she and the Odikro had also instituted a foundation to cater for 2026 BECE graduates who obtained aggregate six and other brilliant but needy students.

The foundation would distribute mattresses, chop boxes, trunks, uniforms and other items to support   underprivileged students to enter Senior High Schools.

Nana Sika Pa said similar packages had been made for young girls who were willing to go into skills training like fashion designing and hairdressing to enable them acquire professional skills.

She therefore encouraged young girls to pursue further education, and abstain from premarital sex to avoid unwanted pregnancy.

Nana Ahema Sika Pa urged citizens of the town to participate in the festival and also contribute their quota to ongoing developmental projects.

Nana Yaw Afful I, Nkosouhene of AGomoa Ekroful gave the assurance that the chiefs would sponsor at least 20 youths 1 to learn trades every year, and others who wanted to further their education to better their lots.

He said the chiefs had initiated programmes to empower the youth and called on the government to intervene to establish an industry in the town to recruit them to reduce unemployment and urban migration.

The Nkosouhene urged contractors currently constructing the road from Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam to Agona Swedru under the government flagship   big push project to construct Ekroful town roads to ensure free movement of goods and services.
