Residents of Liati Soba, Wote appeal to MP, DCE over deplorable roads

By Prince Nornorme

Liati Wote (V/R), Oct. 16, GNA–The residents and youth of Liati Soba and Liati Wote in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region have appealed to the Member of Parliament (MP) and the District Chief Executive (DCE) to urgently help to fix the deplorable access roads to the communities.

They said the poor nature of the roads was affecting daily life and threatening tourism in the area.

The residents are pleading with the MP Mr Frank Afriyie, and the DCE Mr Manfred Tawiah, to intervene.

The residents said Liati Soba and Liati Wote were custodians of some of the Volta Region’s most breathtaking natural treasures, including Mount Afadja, Tagbo Falls and rich cultural heritage.

They said the two communities were prime destinations for travelers and tourists from across Ghana and the globe.

However, they noted that the current state of the roads leading to the iconic sites had become a major crisis.

According to the Assembly Member Mr George Hodzi, the poor road network was not only a heavy daily burden for residents, farmers and drivers, but was also actively discouraging tourists from visiting.

“When visitors struggle with bad roads, our local economy, tourism businesses and youth employment suffer immensely,” he stated.

He said farmers found it difficult to transport their produce to market centres, while drivers frequently had to repair their vehicles due to the bad nature of the road.

The residents said tourism held the key to development in the district, but the roads must reflect that potential.

They therefore urgently pleaded with Mr Frank Afriyie and Mr Manfred Tawiah to treat the matter with the utmost urgency.

They called for immediate intervention and a lasting solution to fix the Liati Soba and Liati Wote access roads.

They said fixing the roads would open up the communities for greater growth and development and boost tourism revenue for the district and the country.
