Accra, July 11, GNA – The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) has urged stakeholders in the tree crops value chain to sustain sanitation and waste management to safeguard produce quality and Ghana’s export reputation beyond the National Clean-Up Exercise
Dr Andy Osei Okrah, Chief Executive Officer of the TCDA, made the call in a statement to the Ghana News Agency after leading Management and Staff of the Authority in the nationwide exercise on Friday.
He said farmers, aggregators, processors, exporters, industry associations and Zonal Officers must regard sanitation as a national responsibility and ensure that the momentum generated by the exercise was sustained.
“Sanitation directly affects produce quality, farmer livelihoods and Ghana’s reputation as a reliable exporter of tree crop commodities,” he said.
Dr Okrah urged Zonal Officers to promote regular clean-up activities and proper waste management at collection centres, warehouses and other facilities within the tree crops value chain.
He commended President John Dramani Mahama for initiating the nationwide exercise, describing it as a timely intervention to improve environmental sanitation.
The statement said Dr Okrah personally led the clean-up at the Authority’s premises, working alongside Management and Staff to sweep, clear refuse and tidy the surroundings as a demonstration of civic responsibility.
He praised staff for their enthusiastic participation, noting their commitment reflected the Authority’s culture of responsibility and teamwork.
The statement said that TCDA’s participation formed part of Government’s broader sanitation agenda and underscored the Authority’s commitment to environmental responsibility, teamwork and the sustainable development of Ghana’s tree crops sector.
