Accra, July 11, GNA – Staff of The Ghana Cocoa Bard (COCOBOD) Friday undertook a clean-up exercise at the head office in Accra to comply with President John Dramani Mahama’s directive declaring two days of national sanitation.

Dr Francis Baah, Deputy Chief Executive, Agronomy and Quality Control, COCOBOD, said that the exercise was necessitated by recent floods which claimed lives and property.

“Because by our actions, we have blocked all the gutters and all the waterways.

“We are respecting the directives of the President. That is why, since 0600 hours every staff is here cleaning the frontage of the office and across the road,” he said.

Dr Baah said cleanliness was key to keeping the environment safe and improving health conditions.

“So I think the president is asking for changing our attitude towards our environment to be safe and healthy. So I think the president is already reminding us to remember that the environment is part of our nature and we need to take good care of the environment,” he said.

Dr Baah noted that COCOBOD would strategise to sustain the exercise since “cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

He advised the public to avoid bad environmental practices such as dumping waste into gutters and other unhealthy behaviours.

“Let’s go back to our core values of keeping our environment clean and adherence to rules and regulations,” he said.
