Dambai (O/R) July 11, GNA – Voting in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executive elections in the Krachi East Municipality could extend into the late hours of Sunday night, following persistent rainfall and delays associated with movement and arrival of delegates at the polling Centre.

The election, held at the Asukawkaw Senior High School, brought together 1,019 delegates to elect a new constituency executive, to lead the affairs of the party in the municipality.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the polling Centre at about 5:00 p.m., 602 delegates had cast their ballots, while more than 400 others remained in the queue awaiting their turn to vote.

Although voting commenced before 7:00 a.m. under the supervision of the Electoral Commission (EC), it progressed slowly during the early hours as the persistent rainfall affected attendance and delayed the arrival of many delegates.

In addition to the weather, some delegates were sighted being assembled and engaged by some aspirants and their campaign teams before proceeding to the polling station.

Election officials indicated that all delegates who were in the queue before the close of polls would be allowed to cast their ballots in accordance with the electoral guidelines, resulting in the exercise being extended beyond the scheduled closing time of 3:00 p.m.

Security personnel from the Ghana Police Service maintained a strong presence throughout the exercise to ensure law and order and guarantee a peaceful electoral process.

Despite the delays, the atmosphere at the polling Centre remained generally calm and orderly, with delegates patiently waiting to exercise their franchise.
