Ho (V/R), July 11, GNA – Voting in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ho Central Constituency Executive elections has been extended beyond the scheduled closing time as long queues persisted at the OLA Senior High School polling Centre.
As of 1700 hours, 1,435 delegates had cast their ballots out of the 1,933 delegates expected to vote.
Hundreds of delegates were still waiting patiently in the queue to exercise their franchise, prompting election officials to assure party members that every accredited delegate in the queue before the closing time would be allowed to vote before counting commenced.
Officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) attributed the slow pace of voting to the limited number of polling centres at the venue, despite the large number of delegates.
The polling station operated only two voting centres, a situation EC officials said significantly slowed the voting process.
Mr Richard Kwadekpo, the Chairman of the Election Committee, assured delegates that the electoral process remained transparent and orderly despite the delays.
“The police personnel have positioned themselves behind the last person in the queue. This means that everyone who was in the queue before the close of polls will be given the opportunity to vote before counting begins,” he said.
Security personnel maintained a strong presence throughout the exercise to ensure law and order, while party officials continued to appeal to delegates to remain calm and conduct themselves peacefully as the voting process progressed.
The Ho Central Constituency Executive elections form part of the NPP’s nationwide internal electoral process aimed at electing constituency executives to steer the affairs of the party at the grassroots ahead of future political activities.
