Seventh PRURide Cycling event outdoored with focus on fitness and sustainability 

Accra, July 15, GNA – Prudential Life Insurance Ghana has launched the seventh edition of its annual PRURide Cycling Fun Ride and Elite Races, with the aim of promoting healthy living and environmental sustainability.  

The event, themed “Pedal for Health, Ride for a Green Future,” would be held on August 22, 2026, at the University of Ghana, Legon, and on September 6, 2026, at the Borteyman Stadium Traffic Light in Accra. 

Speaking at the launch at the University of Ghana Stadium, Mr Richard Kofi Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), commended Prudential Life Insurance for its continued support for cycling in Ghana. 

He urged the company to strengthen its partnership with the Ghana Cycling Federation to help develop the sport and improve Ghana’s prospects of qualifying for future Olympic Games. 

“The courtship between Prudential and cycling must develop into a marriage because your support has been consistent,” Mr Akpokavie said. 

Organisers announced that winners of the 112-kilometre Elite Race in both the men’s and women’s categories would receive trophies and cash prizes of GH¢15,000 each. 

Cyclists who finish between second and tenth place would also receive cash rewards, while special prizes will be presented to the oldest, youngest and most outstanding riders.  

Participants in the 30-kilometre Fun Ride would receive medals. 

Mr Baba Tanko, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, delivered a goodwill message on behalf of Sports Minister Kofi Adams and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to initiatives that encourage sports participation and healthy lifestyles. 

Madam Jane Dornukuor Mingle, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, expressed confidence that this year’s edition would attract a larger number of participants, particularly students. 

Mr Austin Luguthera, Director of Sports and Wellness at the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, revealed plans by the university to establish a permanent cycling club to compete in events organised by the Ghana Cycling Federation. 

He said the university viewed sports as a key tool for development and remained committed to expanding opportunities for students through sporting activities. 

Representatives from the Ghana Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority also pledged support for the event.
