Paga (U/E), July 14, GNA – The Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM) has renewed its call on the Government to address the persistent water shortage in Paga and expedite the completion and operationalisation of the Agenda 111 Hospital project to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
Mr Wenawome Duriyem Aborah, the Chairman of PAYOM, made the appeal at the closing ceremony of the fifth edition of the PAYOM Inter-Community Unity Games held at Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
He said although the annual games had become a platform for promoting peace, unity and youth development, critical development challenges confronting the community required urgent attention.
“Access to clean and reliable water is essential for our people, our schools, our health facilities, our businesses and our growing tourism industry,” he said.
Mr Aborah appealed to the Government, the Ghana Water Limited and other stakeholders to prioritise the expansion and improvement of the water supply system in Paga to meet the needs of the growing population.
He also urged the Government to fast-track the completion and equipping of the Agenda 111 Hospital, emphasising that the facility would significantly improve access to quality healthcare for residents of Paga and neighbouring communities.
The PAYOM Chairman expressed gratitude to the participating teams, traditional authorities, the District Assembly, security agencies, referees, volunteers, sponsors, health personnel and media organisations for contributing to the success of the tournament.
He noted that beyond football, the games had evolved into an important platform for fostering peaceful coexistence, strengthening relationships among communities, identifying young sporting talents, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging youth participation in community development.
Mr Aborah urged the youth to continue to uphold peace, tolerance, volunteerism and communal spirit while rejecting violence, drug abuse and other social vices that impeded development.
He encouraged residents to sustain the spirit of unity and cooperation demonstrated throughout the competition to accelerate the development of the area.
Nyania Football Club defeated Nabio-Batiu FC 1-0 to emerge champions of this year’s tournament, lifting the coveted trophy and earning the bragging rights as the best team in the competition.
Outstanding teams and participants in the various sporting disciplines including sack race and football competitions for market women, were presented with trophies, medals and other awards in recognition of their outstanding performances.
The annual PAYOM Inter-Community Unity Games brings together youth from communities in and around Paga to promote social cohesion, peaceful coexistence and community development through sports.
