Takoradi, July 14, GNA -The Kingmakers of Ahantaman  in the Western Region have unanimously endorsed the Ahanta Heritage Month spearheaded by Madam Mavis Kuukua Bissue, the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West.

The celebration honours the courage of Ahanta leaders like Nana Badu Bonso, who defied colonial plunderers and was killed by Dutch soldiers in 1833.

A statement signed by Nana Ezieaku IV, the Tufuhene of the Agona Division, and Nana Nwinwa Nwinwa IV, the Ninfahene of the Hotopo Division, on behalf of the Kingmakers of the Baidoo Bonsoe Paramount Stool on Tuesday.

The traditional authorities of the Ahanta Kingdom designated July as their Heritage Month to restore the pride and prestige of the chieftaincy institution and promote sustainable development in Ahantaland.

Tailored events often highlighted important historical landmarks in the area, such as the dungeons at Princess Town, Fort Gross-Fredericksburg, and the iconic lighthouse at Cape Three Points.

The month-long celebration culminated with a spectacular durbar of chiefs, featuring vibrant regalia, traditional music, and dance performances where locals and tourists come together to celebrate Ahanta music, dance, and cultural displays in the streets and share in Ahanta cuisine and Ghanaian delicacies.

The Kingmakers thus praised the MP for Upholding the tradition of the area adding, “She has duly engaged us as Kingmakers on this restoration project, and she has our blessings as Nananom to organise the month-long cultural celebration.”

The Kingmakers therefore urged the public to disregard any contrary claims and fully participate in the scheduled Ahanta Heritage Month activities.

The statement said the Kingmakers had also resolved the long-standing misunderstanding between Nana Nwinwa Nwinwa IV, Ninfahene of the Hotopo Division and a Kingmaker of the Paramount Stool, and Nana Ezieaku IV, Tufuhene of the Agona Division and also a Kingmaker.

It noted that both chiefs accepted the settlement in good faith in the interest and development of the Ahantaman and to ensure a befitting traditional passage and the final funeral rites of the late Baidoo Bonsoe XV.
