Damanko (O/R), Aug. 08, GNA – Mr Dordoe Kudjoe Isaiah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North, has joined the youth and residents of Damanko in a community clean-up exercise, aimed at promoting environmental sanitation and healthy living.
It brought together youth groups, community members, local leaders and other stakeholders, who cleared refuse, weeds and other forms of debris from public spaces, as part of efforts to improve the community’s sanitary condition.
The initiative also sought to encourage residents to take ownership of the cleanliness of their surroundings and make environmental sanitation a collective responsibility.
Addressing participants after the exercise, Mr Dordoe commended the youth and other community members for their commitment and active participation in maintaining a clean environment.
He said regular community clean-up exercises were important not only for improving sanitation but also for preventing diseases and creating a healthier and more attractive environment for residents.
The DCE urged residents to sustain the momentum by making cleanliness a daily habit rather than relying solely on periodic communal labour exercises.
He encouraged households, businesses and community groups to properly dispose of waste and desist from indiscriminate dumping, which could undermine sanitation efforts and pose health risks.
Mr Dordoe reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment towards working closely with traditional authorities, youth groups and other stakeholders to promote sustainable sanitation practices and improve living conditions in communities across the district.
He said the active involvement of the youth in community development was particularly encouraging and urged them to continue playing a leading role in initiatives aimed at improving their communities.
After the clean-up exercise, Mr Dordoe inspected an ongoing road project in the area to assess the progress of work and obtain updates on its implementation.
During the inspection, he interacted with the contractors and other personnel working on the project and discussed issues relating to the pace and quality of construction.
The DCE stressed the need for the contractors to adhere to approved construction specifications and maintain high standards throughout the execution of the project.
He also underscored the importance of completing the project within the agreed timeframe, to facilitate movement of people, goods, and support economic activities in the area.
Mr Dordoe said improved road infrastructure would contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of communities by enhancing access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.
He assured residents that the Assembly would continue to monitor development projects within the district, to ensure that they were executed to the required standards and delivered for the benefit of the people.
The DCE further called on residents to support development projects by protecting public infrastructure and cooperating with contractors and relevant authorities to ensure their successful completion.
The exercise and subsequent inspection formed part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to promote community participation, improve environmental sanitation and advance infrastructure development across the Nkwanta North District.
