Denu (V/R), July 17, GNA – The Ketu South Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has received relief items for distribution to persons affected by recent flooding in parts of the municipality.Â
Mr Ferguson Ahorlu, Municipal Director of NADMO, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the items comprised 100 bags of 25kg rice, 120 mattresses, 150 blankets, 200 plastic plates, 100 mosquito nets and 50 basins.
He said the intervention was intended to support the most affected households and displaced persons, noting that the floods impacted about 1,179 households across 22 communities in the municipality.
Mr Ahorlu said the distribution exercise would begin on Friday in communities including Huime, Aluwoe-Kpotame, Zuime, Viepe and Apekotuime, and continue on Monday to cover the remaining affected areas.
“We will ensure that the items reach those who were most affected by the floods,” he said.
Mr Ahorlu noted that some affected households had already received assistance from philanthropists and the Member of Parliament for the area.
He, however, said the current consignment was inadequate to meet the needs of all affected persons but expressed optimism that additional relief items would soon be received for onward distribution.
Mr Ahorlu said the office was also engaging private individuals and organisations to mobilise additional support for the victims.
He appealed to affected residents to remain calm, assuring them that efforts were underway to ensure the equitable distribution of the available relief items.
Mr Ahorlu commended the Government for its timely intervention and expressed the hope that more assistance would be provided to support the affected communities.
