Kintampo, (Bono East), Oct. 08, GNA-The Kintampo Local Authority Primary and Junior High School compound in the Bono East Region has turned into cattle kraal, as teachers continue with their nationwide industrial action.
During a visit, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed that all the classrooms were locked with some herdsmen capitalising on the situation and using the school compound as a shelter for their stray animals.
Some residents described the situation as worrying, as the animals defecated haphazardly at the school’s premises and thereby worsening the sanitation situation.
“The school is now a cow school”, a resident stated on condition of anonymity, saying that everywhere was now littered with cow dung.
When contacted, Mr D.T Francis, the Headmaster of the school, expressed worry about the situation, saying that the school authorities had officially reported to the Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Directorate of Education, however nothing had been done.
“Before the strike some of the animals tried to share some of the classrooms with the learners whenever it rained,” he stated.
Some families around the school premises also expressed similar sentiments, fearing that if nothing was done, the situation could lead to an outbreak of diseases.
They appealed for the Municipal Security Committee’s intervention and called on the Municipal Assembly to enforce byelaws on stray animals and fence the school as well.
