Odomase (Bono), July 17, GNA – A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region has urged the party to guard against factionalism during its internal elections to preserve its unity ahead of the 2028 General Election.
Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders, said the NPP had since 1992 cherished and preserved its internal democratic culture, which must not be undermined by divisions within the party.
He said allowing factionalism to prevail within the rank and file would not augur well for the party’s fortunes in the 2028 General Election.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Odomase in the Sunyani West Constituency, Mr Mensah appealed to aspirants contesting the party’s national and regional executive positions, as well as their supporters, to conduct their campaigns with decorum.
He stressed the need for the NPP to consolidate the gains of its internal democracy by ensuring that the regional and national executive elections were conducted in a free, fair and credible manner, devoid of bias.
Mr Mensah, 75, a former Regional Organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region, said sustaining and deepening unity remained critical to the party’s preparations for the 2028 General Election.
He expressed optimism that with a formidable presidential candidate in former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP could secure a resounding victory in the 2028 polls.
Mr Mensah also urged delegates to make informed choices when electing the party’s regional and national executives by voting for individuals who had demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the NPP.
