Hoe (V/R), Oct. 08, GNA – Togbega Sessinu VI, the Paramount Chief of the Hoe Traditional Area, has broken ground for the construction of accommodation facilities for teachers and nurses and appealed to the Central Government to support the project.

The project, which forms part of his development priorities for the Hoe traditional area, is aimed at addressing accommodation challenges faced by teachers, nurses and other workers posted to Hoe.

Togbega Sessinu VI said the absence of adequate rental accommodation in the community made it difficult for professionals posted there to secure suitable places to live.

He explained that most residents constructed houses primarily for their families and did not have the intention of renting them out, creating accommodation difficulties for workers and strangers in the community.

“That is why I took it as my first project to provide accommodation for both the nurses at our clinic and the teachers in town,” he said.

The Paramount Chief appealed to the Central Government to complement efforts by the Member of Parliament and District Chief Executive to ensure that the project was completed within a year for occupation by teachers and nurses.

“I pledge to lead you and that project will come to fruition. I will lead you and I need your support to complete it,” he said.

Togbega Sessinu also appealed to the government to support the rehabilitation and expansion of the community’s water supply system.

He said although water was abundant in Hoe, the existing pumping system required rehabilitation to restore its effectiveness and meet the needs of the growing population.

According to him, the cost of rehabilitating and expanding the pumping system was beyond the capacity of the community, hence the appeal for government intervention.

“We are again appealing to the Central Government to come to our aid and help us rehabilitate the pumping system for expansion in the community,” he said.

The Paramount Chief said he was committed to leading the people towards their collective aspirations and called for their support to achieve the development objectives of the traditional area.

“I will lead them to wherever we all wish to be. I will lead them when we are awake,” he said, adding that he wanted the people to return to Hoe during holidays and their free time to contribute to the development of the community.

He acknowledged that the area faced both material and spiritual challenges and said the traditional authority would work with the people to review traditional norms and practices.

He said practices that were no longer relevant would be abolished, while those worth maintaining would be amended where necessary and preserved.

Togbega Sessinu also urged the youth to take education, apprenticeship and vocational training seriously, saying acquiring relevant knowledge and skills was essential to achieving self-reliance.

“When you go to school, make sure you have achieved something. When you want to learn a trade, pay attention, learn your trade, come out successfully and practice your trade,” he said.

He encouraged the youth to use their education and skills to support themselves, their families, the community and the country.

The Paramount Chief further appealed to prospective investors interested in agriculture to consider the Hoe Traditional Area, saying the community had extensive arable land suitable for the cultivation of various crops.

He assured investors that the traditional authority was prepared to assist them in accessing land for agricultural purposes.

“I will assist you to get land,” he said.
