Accra, July 24, GNA – The Government is tol undertake 210 educational infrastructure projects nationwide with a US$300 million World Bank financing facility.
The projects are intended to expand access to secondary education, improve learning outcomes and support efforts to eliminate the double-track system.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review to Parliament on Thursday, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, said the programme would include the construction of 10 new secondary schools and the rehabilitation of 150 existing schools.
“The 10 new secondary schools will be strategically distributed to improve access in underserved areas.
“One new school each will be constructed in the Western, Western North, Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Savannah, and Central Regions,” he said.
Dr Ato Forson said the Government would also upgrade 30 Category C senior high schools to Category B and 20 Category B schools to Category A, while providing furniture for the beneficiary institutions.
He said the financing would support improvements in the teaching of Mathematics and Science, expand female participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and equip young people with digital, technical and green skills.
The Minister said the project was expected to benefit about 2.3 million students, more than 100,000 teachers and about 2,000 school leaders nationwide upon completion.
