New DCOPs positioned to strengthen regional police administration – IGP

ACCRA, Oct. 6 (GNA) – Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunu, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has urged newly promoted Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCOPs) to provide strategic leadership at the regional level to enhance security and improve police service delivery across the country.

He said the promotions were not only a recognition of the officers’ professionalism, dedication and years of meritorious service, but also a call to greater responsibility in addressing emerging security challenges.

Mr Yohuno, speaking  at a decoration ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, said the President Dramani Mahama was pleased to approve their promotion to serve as a motivation to give of their best.

the IGP officially decorated the 22 officers, who were promoted from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).

Mr Yohunu noted that the newly promoted officers would play critical roles in strengthening regional police administration, supervising operational activities and supporting efforts to maintain peace, law and order.

He said effective regional leadership remained essential to combating crime, improving public confidence in the Police Service and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

“The expectations of the Ghanaian public are high, and I believe your experience, competence and commitment will enable you to deliver on your mandate,” he stated.

The IGP said the evolving nature of crime required strong leadership, innovation and collaboration at all levels of policing, particularly within the regions where security threats often first emerge.

He charged the officers to remain disciplined, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and lead by example in the discharge of their duties.

According to him, the promotions formed part of efforts by the Police Administration to strengthen the leadership structure of the Service and position it to respond effectively to contemporary security demands.

Mr. Yohunu encouraged the newly promoted officers to mentor younger personnel and work closely with communities and stakeholders to foster trust and deepen public cooperation in crime prevention.

He reiterated the commitment of the Police Administration to improving operational effectiveness and enhancing security across the country through capable and visionary leadership.
