Sege, Oct. 06, GNA – Nene Nakom Namli V, the newly installed Sege Mantse, has called on the people of Sege to unite and work together to accelerate the development of the community.

Nene Namli V, known in private life as Mr Godfred Kojo Nakom, said he had been chosen to serve the people and was prepared to work with the kingmakers and the entire community to fulfil the responsibilities of the Sege Stool.

In his first message following his installation, he said the progress of Sege required the collective efforts and cooperation of its people.

Nene Namli V was installed on August 30, 2026, at the Namli Stool Room at the ancestral Nakom Wem at Sege Nakomkope, following his selection by the kingmakers of the Sege Stool.

A resolution signed by the kingmakers and adopted at a meeting at CII, Tema, on August 28, said the selection and installation were conducted in accordance with the customs, traditions and established practices governing the Sege Stool.

The resolution named the kingmakers as Nomo Augustus Lomotey Amlalo of Ayiku Wem, Yomo Manye Esther Kwablah of Kanor Wem, Nomo John Tetteh Kabutey Narh of Akpotosu Wem and Nomo Daniel Dornu Nartey of Narter Tumolu Wem.

It also identified Mr Richard Dornu Nartey as the head of the Lomotey We family.

The installation ceremony was conducted in the presence of the Stool Father, the Namli fetish priest and priestesses, and the Asafoatse of Akpotosu.

As part of the customary rites, the newly selected chief was confined in the stool room before swearing an oath to the Namli Black Stool. A ram was subsequently slaughtered as part of the rites.

The ceremony was followed by a procession from Nakomkope to Sege Junction to mark the occasion.

The installation comes against the backdrop of a longstanding dispute over the Sege Stool, which has gone before the Judicial Committee of the Ada Traditional Council, the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs.

On August 24, 2026, the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs unanimously allowed an appeal in Suit No. NHC.1/GAR/2024, setting aside the judgement of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and restoring the November 24, 2020 judgement of the Ada Traditional Council.

The Ada Traditional Council judgement arose from an earlier dispute dating back to 2005 and held that the June 7, 2012 judgement in Teye Agbewornu and Another v Rev Abraham Nakom, Suit No. ATC/JC/4/2005, had been obtained through fraud.

The issues considered included the status of individuals who had claimed the Sege chieftaincy, the recorded installation date of Nene Dame Agbewornu II, records relating to the death of the late Nene Nakom IV, and claims over possession of the Black Stool.

The Ada Traditional Council subsequently set aside the 2012 judgement and awarded GH¢5,000 in costs against the defendants.

The National House of Chiefs, in restoring the 2020 judgement, also awarded GH¢5,000 in costs in favour of the appellants.

A certified letter dated September 22, 2026, from the National House of Chiefs confirmed that a certified true copy of the proceedings of the August 24 sitting had been released to the lawyers, while the reasoned judgement was to be obtained from the Registrar.
