Kadjebi (O/R), July 30, GNA – Residents of Butabe, Tsikata and Buyor Kofe in the Butabe/Obuase Electoral Area of the Kadjebi District in the Oti Region, have appealed to the Kadjebi District Assembly to extend electricity to their communities to improve their socio-economic lives.
They said the lack of electricity had adversely affected education, healthcare delivery, business activities and security, forcing residents, particularly students and traders, to rely on alternative sources of lighting.
The appeal was made by Mr Mutakilu Tsadenu, the Assembly Member for the Butabe/Obuase Electoral Area, during a community engagement at Dodi-Papase in the Kadjebi District.
Mr Tsadenu said access to electricity had become a basic necessity and urged the Assembly to prioritise the extension of the national electricity grid to the three communities.
He said the provision of electricity would enhance economic activities, improve living conditions and attract investment to the area.
The Assembly Member also appealed to the Assembly to facilitate the construction of the Poase-Cement via Butabe and Tsikata–Adjei Kofe roads to improve transportation and make it easier for farmers to cart their produce to market centres.
He said the poor nature of the road continued to hamper movement of people, goods and services, especially during the rainy season.
Mr Tsadenu further appealed for the construction of new classroom blocks for the Butabe and Tsikata D/A Primary Schools to replace the existing dilapidated structures.
He said the deteriorating classroom blocks posed a safety risk for both pupils and teachers and negatively affected teaching and learning.
He appealed to the government and other development partners to support the Assembly in addressing the infrastructure deficit in the electoral area.
Responding to the concerns, Dr Alhaji Sam Issaka Suraj, the Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE), acknowledged the development challenges confronting the communities and assured the residents that the Assembly would give due consideration to their requests.
Dr Suraj urged the residents to continue supporting the Assembly’s development agenda through communal labour, dialogue and cooperation, assuring them that their concerns would be addressed.
