Accra, Sept. 30, GNA – The High Court on Wednesday issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The Court also granted EOCO authority to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.
The Court, however, directed EOCO to execute the arrest through the Speaker of Parliament.
EOCO applied for the orders, telling the Court that efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance for questioning had been unsuccessful.
The Office said the MP had allegedly failed to honour invitations issued to him since February 2026.
EOCO expressed concern that documents connected to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed if the requested orders were not granted.
The latest development follows a confrontation at the Accra High Court on September 23, when EOCO officers attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah.
The Office subsequently explained that the attempted arrest was connected to an investigation for which the MP had been invited twice in February 2026.
EOCO’s application indicated that the investigation concerned alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
The Office said the transactions were being investigated in connection with alleged financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering, among other offences.
The Court’s latest orders provide EOCO with legal authority to arrest the MP and conduct searches and seizures in connection with the investigation.
Mr Baffour Awuah, however, has challenged EOCO’s account of the matter.
The MP said the investigation related to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, which had previously engaged his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
He said after receiving EOCO’s February invitation, he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, following which a representative of his former law firm appeared before EOCO investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30, 2026.
The representative, he said, provided information requested by the investigators, including a written statement.
