Worawora (O/R) Sept 30, GNA – Mr Martin Kwaku Ayisi, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission, has urged parents and guardians in Worawora in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region to prioritise the education of their children.
He explained that education was a critical investment in the future of children and the development of the community.
He said education remained an important pathway for equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and values required to improve their livelihoods, access opportunities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Mr Ayisi, a legal practitioner, made the call at the launch of the 2026 Akwantutenten Festival at Worawora, where he encouraged parents not to allow financial difficulties to derail the educational aspirations of their children.
He said although education alone could not eliminate poverty, it could provide individuals with skills and opportunities that would enhance their capacity to improve their socio-economic circumstances.
“Parents must make education a priority and encourage their children to take their studies seriously. Education provides the knowledge and skills that can open opportunities and help young people improve their lives,” he added.
Mr Ayisi urged traditional authorities, religious organisations, community leaders, professionals and other stakeholders to work together to create an enabling environment for children to remain in school and successfully complete their education.
He also encouraged students to remain disciplined, focused and committed to their studies, saying academic achievement required perseverance, responsible conduct and determination.
The former Minerals Commission CEO further appealed to successful professionals and indigenes of Worawora to contribute to the development of education in the community through scholarships, mentorship programmes, learning materials and other forms of support.
He said such interventions could complement government efforts and provide opportunities for children from financially challenging families to pursue their educational aspirations.
Mr Ayisi announced that SHS graduates from Worawora who had obtained good results but due to financial difficulties and had resorted to commercial motorcycle (Okada) business could approach him for assistance.
He said the initiative was intended to support such young people to pursue further education or explore sustainable livelihood opportunities that could improve their prospects.
He similarly offered assistance to BECE graduates who obtained good results, but whose parents or guardians could not afford to send them to Senior High School.
He urged such students and their parents or guardians to approach him, stressing that financial constraints should not unnecessarily prevent academically promising young people from continuing their education.
Mr Ayisi said the development of Worawora depended, to a significant extent, on the quality of human capital produced by the community.
He therefore urged parents to regard expenditure on their children’s education as an investment rather than a burden and to provide them with the necessary guidance, encouragement and support.
He called for sustained collaboration among parents, traditional authorities, educational institutions, professionals and other stakeholders to strengthen educational outcomes and create better opportunities for the younger generation.
He said investing in the education of children would not only benefit individual families but also contribute to the long-term social and economic development of Worawora and the Oti Region.
