Dambai (O/R), July 30, GNA – Tension is mounting within the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), following the disqualification of a chairmanship aspirant its regional elections.
The CLOGSAG regional elections currently being held at the Bosatsu Hotel in the Oti Region, had Mr Prince Latif Oyejunle, one of the contestants for the Oti Regional Chairmanship disqualified by the election committee.
The decision was on the grounds that he had taken the Association to court over issues relating to alleged double salary payments and the purported withdrawal of GHS500.00.
The decision had generated dissatisfaction among some members who questioned the fairness of the electoral process.
The information available indicated that, the Association conducted the vetting of aspirants and proceeded with the elections on the same day, leaving no opportunity for disqualified candidates to appeal the committee’s decision before voting commenced.
Concerns have also been raised over the reported removal of the names of the CLOGSAG Chairman and the Secretary of the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) from the delegates’ list, a development that has further heightened tensions among members.
Some members have called on the national leadership of CLOGSAG to intervene and ensure that the electoral process was transparent, fair and in accordance with the Association’s constitution.
