Kadjebi (O/R), Sept. 30, GNA – The Oti Regional branch of the National Council of Parents-Teacher Associations (NCPTA)-Ghana has urged Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to strengthen collaboration with school authorities to promote the welfare and educational development of learners.
It said effective collaboration among parents, teachers and school heads was essential to creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning and addressing challenges confronting schools.
Reverend Nana Sieeneku I, Oti Regional Chairman of NCPTA-Ghana, made the call at a regional meeting of the Council held at the Oti Senior High Technical School in Dambai.
He urged PTA executives to remain united, work collectively, and support school authorities to achieve the objectives of the associations.
Rev Sieeneku said PTAs should provide the necessary support to school heads and teaching staff while ensuring that the interests and welfare of learners remained at the centre of their activities.
He said collaboration between PTAs and school authorities should be based on mutual respect, transparency, and a shared commitment to improving learning outcomes.
Mr Christian Aikins Atsu, President of NCPTA-Ghana, urged PTAs to adhere strictly to the approved dues and levies.
He said the approved PTA dues were GH¢50.00, while the levy was GH¢150.00, bringing the total amount to GH¢200.00 per semester.
Mr Atsu said the decision was reached at the NCPTA-Ghana Extraordinary National Conference held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall from August 25 to 27, 2026.
He said any proposed charge above the approved amount required prior approval from the national leadership of NCPTA-Ghana.
Mr Atsu cautioned school-based PTA executives against giving PTA receipt booklets to school authorities to collect other monies from parents, saying such a practice amounted to illegal collection.
He also cautioned PTA executives against conniving with school heads to collect monies to finance their activities, saying such arrangements could create the perception that PTAs were imposing additional charges on parents.
He urged the executives to maintain clear boundaries in their financial dealings with schools to protect the credibility and integrity of the associations.
On communication, Mr Atsu encouraged PTAs to establish separate WhatsApp platforms for the various year groups to facilitate the timely dissemination of relevant information to parents and guardians.
He said the platforms should be used responsibly to disseminate accurate and relevant information to prevent confusion among parents and guardians.
The NCPTA-Ghana President further urged PTAs to establish offices and maintain proper files and records to strengthen documentation, accountability and institutional memory.
He said proper record-keeping would enable PTA executives to track decisions, activities and financial transactions and ensure a smooth transition when new executives assumed office.
Mr Atsu said the interests and welfare of learners should remain the overriding priority of every PTA and urged members to use legitimate and transparent means to protect and promote their wellbeing.
He called for sustained cooperation among PTA executives, parents, and school authorities to address challenges confronting schools and create better opportunities for learners.
