Accra, July 30, GNA – The Attorney-General on Thursday asked the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to appeal the Court of Appeal’s decision acquitting and discharging former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Ms Sedina Attionu Tamakloe, of all charges brought against her.
A statement issued by the Office of the Attorney-General said the directive followed the Court of Appeal’s judgment overturning Ms Tamakloe’s conviction by the High Court on July 30, 2026.
Ms Tamakloe was charged with 78 counts, including conspiracy to steal, stealing, conspiracy to cause financial loss to the State, causing financial loss to the State, causing loss to public property, improper payment of public funds, unauthorised commitments resulting in financial obligations to the Government, money laundering, and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.
She was tried and convicted in absentia by the High Court (Financial Division 2) in April 2024, presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe, sitting as an additional High Court Judge, and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
The statement said the Republic had opposed the appeal by filing written submissions, arguing that it lacked merit and should be dismissed.
However, following the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and discharge Ms Tamakloe, the Attorney-General directed the DPP to immediately file a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court.
The Attorney-General also instructed that an application for a stay of execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment be filed pending the determination of the appeal by the Supreme Court.
The statement said the Attorney-General remained committed to upholding due process and expressed confidence that the Republic’s appeal before the Supreme Court would succeed.
