Fiapre, (Bono), Oct. 24, GNA-The Catholic University of Ghana (CUG) has graduated 2,808 students who have undergone undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

They comprised 668 postgraduates and 2,138 undergraduates with 1,736 from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, 615 from the School of Health and Allied Sciences and 155 from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.

Others were 226 students from the Faculty of Education, 51 from the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, and 23 from the Faculty of Religions and Social Sciences.

The university also graduated its first PhD student, admitted and matriculated approximately 1,810 freshers for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Addressing the 25th matriculation and 38th congregation ceremony of the university at its main campus at Fiapre, near Sunyani, Professor Matthew Glover Addo, the Vice Chancellor of the CUG said that out of the undergraduates, 91 of them had first class honours.

He said that 1,124 of the students had second class upper with 925 having second class lower and 12 with third class, saying that: “No graduate is going home with just a pass”.

Prof Addo indicated that the graduation of the PhD student was a milestone and the beginning of a new era of doctoral education and research excellence at the institution, hoping that would also inspire many more scholars to pursue the highest levels of academic excellence.

He said that the CUG’s enrollment increment placed higher responsibility on management to expand facilities, strengthen human resource capacity, and continuously improve the quality of academic and student support services.

Prof Addo said the university had recorded significant progress in the provision of facilities intended to improve teaching, learning, administration, and student welfare.

A major achievement has been the completion and commissioning of the University’s Pavilion being used for lectures and examinations as well as religious and social activities.

The offices within the facility had been furnished and allocated to the teaching staff of School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Faculty of Religions and Social Sciences and it also housed the Dean of Students Office and the Examinations unit of CUG.

Prof. Addo explained that the management recognizing the transportation difficulties associated with the University’s expanding academic activities and with the support of the Governing Council, procured two thirty-seater coaster buses and two Toyota Hilux pickups.

The university also purchased 150 computers to retool Computer Laboratory III, which presently served as one of the Nursing and Midwifery Council examination centres in the Bono Region.

“This development reinforces our commitment to digital transformation and the provision of modern technological resources to support teaching, learning and professional development”, he stated.

Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, the Chancellor of the CUG, commended the management, teaching and non-teaching staff for their hard work towards the holistic development of the university.
