Accra, May 28, GNA – The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for balanced and healthy eating habits, saying good nutrition depends on small, consistent choices rather than perfection.
In a statement to mark World Nutrition Day, WHO said healthier diets could significantly reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and some cancers, which remain major public health concerns globally and in Ghana.
World Nutrition Day is observed annually on May 28 to highlight the importance of healthy eating habits.
WHO and health experts recommend that adults consume at least 400 grammes of fruits and vegetables daily to support good health and strengthen the immune system.
Experts also cautioned against excessive salt intake, noting that high salt consumption increases the risk of hypertension, stroke, and heart disease.
The statement called on individuals, families, and institutions to make conscious food choices and for policymakers to create environments that promote access to affordable, nutritious foods.
