Scrap dealer remanded for stealing

Abuakwa (Ash) July 17, GNA – An 18-year-old scrap dealer, has been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, for allegedly stealing at Abrepo, near Kumasi. 

Alhassan Shaibu, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing and will be brought back to the court presided by Mrs Philomena Ansaah Asiedu, on July 27, 2026. 

Police Detective Chief Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Isaac Boateng, a trader, resided at Oforikrom, while Shaibu resided at Aboabo, where the complainant and his mother had uncompleted buildings. 

He said on July 03, 2026, at about 3:00pm, the complainant was informed by a neighbour that, Shaibu had been arrested by the Bohyen police carrying a sack containing electric cables and air conditioner pipes from his house so the complainant rushed to the police station. 

He identified the electric cables and air conditioner pipes valued at GHS 10, 000.00 as his, and made an official complaint to the police. 

In his caution statement, the accused person admitted and told the police that he used a chisel and hammer to remove the items from the walls of the uncompleted building. 

He was then sent to the crime scene and he pointed to the uncompleted house of the complainant and his mother as the place of the act. 

After further investigations he was charged and brought before the court.
