Dortmund, Germany, June 16 (dpa/GNA) – The daughter of a German politician was charged on Tuesday, some eight months after a near-fatal knife attack on her mother.
The 17-year-old adopted daughter of Social Democrat Iris Stalzer, mayor of the western town of Herdecke, was charged with grievous bodily harm, chief investigating prosecutor Bernd Haldorn and the teenager’s lawyer told dpa.
Prosecutors accuse the daughter of stabbing Stalzer two times with two different knives on October 7, 2025 at their family home. They also say she hit her mother in the head with an object, breaking her nose.
Stalzer, 58, recovered quickly from the attack and was sworn in as mayor the following month. An arrest warrant was issued against the 17-year-old daughter following the attack.
However, Haldorn said investigators do not believe she intended to kill her mother, and noted that she called emergency services after the attack. The daughter has not yet commented on the allegations, and investigators declined to comment on a possible motive, citing the accused’s age.
The daughter’s lawyer told dpa that his client, had briefly been placed in psychiatric care after the attack, and an expert later found her to be criminally liable.
There had been conflicts within the family for some time prior to the incident, according to the police, with both the mother and her two children having accused each other of domestic violence when speaking to officers.
