Ho (V/R), June 21, GNA – Sonrise Christian High School in Ho has graduated 225 students at its 18th Graduation Ceremony, with a call on the graduates to pursue excellence, uphold integrity and use their education to serve society.
The ceremony was held on the theme: “Equipped for Excellence, Called to Serve.”
Mr Freeman Gobah, Country Director of Pencils of Promise (PoP) and Guest Speaker, said graduation marked the beginning of a new chapter that would require greater commitment, courage, faith and determination.
He said the achievement of the graduates was a testament to years of hard work, perseverance and resilience in overcoming academic, personal and emotional challenges.
Mr. Gobah acknowledged the sacrifices of parents, guardians and teachers, whose support and dedication contributed significantly to the students’ success.
He noted that true excellence was not measured by academic awards, wealth, or social media popularity, but by how individuals used their talents and opportunities to positively impact society.
“We live in an increasingly self-centred world where personal ambition often takes precedence over service to others. This theme is a reminder that success should be measured by our contribution to humanity,” he said.
He urged the graduates to uphold integrity, remain resilient in the face of challenges, and use their knowledge to solve problems and create opportunities for others.
According to him, the world needs young people who will choose integrity over compromise, service over selfishness and purpose over popularity.

Mr Gobah encouraged the graduates to pursue excellence in all their endeavours, guard their character, persevere through setbacks and trust God throughout their life’s journey.
Mr Joseph Dzamesi, Administrator of Sonrise Christian High School, said the institution remained committed to producing academically excellent and well-rounded graduates.
He disclosed that about 82 per cent of the 2025 graduating class obtained grades A1 to C6, qualifying for university admission, while more than 92 per cent qualified for tertiary education when HND entry requirements were included.
Mr Dzamesi said Sonrise students significantly outperformed national averages in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, 81.3 per cent of Sonrise students obtained A1 to C6 in Core Mathematics compared to the national average of 48.73 per cent, while 97.3 per cent passed English Language against the national average of 69 per cent.
He added that 98.7 per cent of Sonrise students obtained A1 to C6 in Integrated Science, compared to the national average of 57.7 per cent.
“Our results continue to place us among the top-performing schools in Ghana,” he said.
Mr Dzamesi said the school had introduced sign language as a core subject, enabling all final-year students to communicate in basic sign language.
He noted that the institution also promoted holistic development through sports, debate, drama, choir, brass band, and cadet activities.
He further stated that Sonrise remained the only senior high school in the Volta Region with a tennis court and had invested significantly in infrastructure, including a 700-seat auditorium, an 800-capacity dining hall, a 16-bed health centre and a newly commissioned science laboratory.
Mr Dzamesi said the school’s Interact Club recently raised GHS40,000 through a fundraising dinner to support the repainting of children’s wards at the Ho Teaching Hospital under the “Colours of Hope Project.”
Mr. Frederick Adongo Mahama, Chairperson of the Advisory Board, said the graduating class began with about 260 students in 2023, with 225 successfully completing the programme.
He commended parents and guardians for their sacrifices and urged the graduates to uphold the values of discipline, service, and excellence.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Ms. Tsagli Maud Dzidefo expressed gratitude to parents, teachers and management for their guidance and support and encouraged her colleagues to strive for excellence in their future endeavours.
Parents, alumni, staff, management, friends, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
