Accra, June 9, GNA – Ghana has taken a major step toward energy independence with the first delivery of Jubilee crude oil to be refined locally at the Sentuo Oil Refinery in Tema.
Speaking at the crude oil berthing ceremony, Ningquan Xu, the Executive Chairman, described the development as a historic milestone in Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda.
He said that for many years Ghana had exported crude oil while importing refined petroleum products, adding that the country had exported value and imported dependency.
Xu noted that refining Jubilee crude in Ghana would help create jobs, strengthen energy security, and retain more value from the country’s natural resources.
He also announced that President John Dramani Mahama was expected to perform the sod-cutting ceremony for Phase Two of the Sentuo Refinery Expansion Project on June 24, 2026, a move expected to increase refining capacity and create thousands of jobs.
The company said the milestone positioned Ghana closer to becoming a regional petroleum processing and trading hub for West Africa and the Sahel.
Xu stated that history would remember the moment as the day Ghana refined more of its own resources for its own development.
