Accra, June 8, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in collaboration with other state security agencies, at the weekend organised the 2026 Security Services Fun Games in Accra to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, teamwork, and solidarity among personnel.

The sporting event, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, brought together personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Organised under the theme: “Working Together Through Sports, the event serves as a precursor to the 2026 Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games, scheduled for September.

Addressing participants, Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior and Guest of Honour, underscored the importance of collaboration among security agencies in tackling evolving security threats.

He noted that although each agency operates under a distinct mandate, their overall effectiveness depends on their ability to work seamlessly together to protect lives, property, and national interests.

The Minister emphasised that enhanced coordination and intelligence sharing among the various security services would improve their capacity to combat crime, respond to emergencies, and maintain public safety.

He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to providing adequate logistics and resources to enable the security agencies to efficiently carry out their constitutional duties.

The event featured a series of football matches among teams from the participating security services, aimed at promoting healthy competition and fostering stronger professional relationships beyond routine operational duties.

At the end of the competition, the Ghana Immigration Service emerged champions in the women’s division, while the Ghana Police Service clinched victory in the men’s category.

The event was attended by top military and security officials, including the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong; the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu; and the Chief of Staff at General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Mensah Lakai, along with other heads and representatives of the various security agencies.

The Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) was established to use sports as a platform to promote unity, discipline, and cooperation among Ghana’s security institutions. Over the years, activities organised under the association have provided important opportunities to strengthen professional bonds among personnel who often collaborate during national emergencies, peacekeeping missions, law enforcement operations, and disaster response efforts.

Security analysts have long maintained that effective national security goes beyond equipment and operational capacity, highlighting the importance of trust, collaboration, and strong interpersonal relationships among personnel across the various services.
