Santijan, (UWR), June 11, GNA – The chief and people of Santijan, one of the hard-to-reach communities in the Sissala East Municipality, have renewed their appeal for the extension of electricity to the area.

They also called for other development interventions to help address longstanding challenges facing hard-to-reach communities, often referred to as “overseas communities”.

Kuoro Npia Docta III, the Chief of Santijan, made the appeal during a colourful durbar organised by the Paramount Chief of the Tumu Traditional Area, Tumu Kuoro Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton IV, to present a medallion to Kuoro Npia Docta III.

Traditional and opinion leaders, community members, and other stakeholders attended the event to celebrate the honour bestowed on Kuoro Docta, which he described as a symbol of recognition, unity, and service to the people.

Speaking at the durbar in Santijan, Kuoro Npia Docta used the occasion to draw attention to the numerous challenges confronting the community, particularly the lack of electricity and access roads.

He appealed to government, through the Sissala East Municipal Assembly, to extend electricity to the area to help create jobs for women and the youth.

Kuoro Docta also highlighted poor road infrastructure, limited access to healthcare services, inadequate educational facilities, and the lack of reliable transportation as major obstacles to development in the area.

According to him, the poor state of the roads continues to isolate the community, especially during the rainy season, making it difficult for residents to access farm inputs, markets, schools, and health facilities.

He noted that this situation negatively affects economic activities, particularly farming, which remains the main source of livelihood for many households.

Kuoro Docta appealed to government agencies, development partners, non-governmental organisations, and private investors to support efforts aimed at improving living conditions in the area.

He stressed the need for unity among the people, emphasizing that collective action and cooperation are essential for overcoming the challenges facing Santijan.

The chief also urged residents to work together with traditional authorities and local government officials to promote peace, development, and social cohesion.

He further called on the central government to consider carving a new district out of the current Sissala East Municipality to bring local governance closer to the people.

The Tumu Kuoro, while presenting the medallion, commended the leadership of Kuoro Santijan and encouraged the people to remain united and focused on the development of their community.

He underscored the importance of preserving traditional values while embracing initiatives that improve people’s welfare.

Kuoro Docta was born in Santijan on 15 November 1981 and was enskinned as chief of Santijan on 23 April 2012.

He began his primary education in Santijan and later attended Tumu Egala Junior Secondary School, completing in 1998. He was then admitted to the then Kanton Senior Secondary School in 2000.

After secondary school, he moved to Accra to pursue further studies and work, later joining Ghana Water Limited as a Junior Revenue Officer in 2005.

He is currently a Senior Customer Care Assistant at Ghana Water Limited.

He later gained admission to the University of Ghana, where he studied Human Resource Management and Information Studies, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree.
