Accra, June 5, GNA – The Ghana Police Service has refuted reports suggesting that arrests have been made in connection with the fire outbreak at the Accra Central Police Barracks on June 3.
In a press release issued by Superintendent of Police Ms. Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the police clarified that “no individuals had been arrested at this stage of the ongoing investigations.”
It said initial media reports claiming that arrests had been effected were inaccurate.
“Contrary to earlier reports in a section of the media suggesting that arrests have been made… no arrests have been made at this stage of investigations,” the release emphasised.
It disclosed that a fire officer who sustained injuries during efforts to contain the blaze was receiving treatment at the Police Hospital and in stable condition.
“Thankfully, no fatalities have been recorded, although the cause of the fire is yet to be determined,” the release said.
The Accra Regional Police Command commended the Ghana National Fire Service and all personnel involved in bringing the situation under control and ensuring safety at the scene.
The Command assured the public that further updates would be communicated as investigations progressed.
The fire incident reportedly occurred during a torrential downpour on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, affecting some police officers and their families residing at the barracks.
The incident coincided with the 11th anniversary of the June 3, 2015 twin disaster, which included a devastating fire and explosion at the GOIL Filling Station near Kwame Nkrumah Circle, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries.
On the same day this year, a separate incident was recorded at Adenta, where a building collapse claimed the life of a woman and left several others, including children, injured.
