Dambai(O/R), June 10, GNA – Mr Isaiah Cudjoe Dordoe, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Nkwanta North, has commissioned a newly established animal market at Kpassa, describing it as a strategic intervention aimed at promoting livestock trade.

It is to enhance local economic activities, and improving access to animals for residents and traders within the district.

The DCE was accompanied by the Presiding Member of the District Assembly, Mr Abubakar Alhassan, and the District Coordinating Director, Mr Samuel Gyamena.

The commissioning ceremony brought together traditional authorities, religious leaders, traders, livestock dealers, community members, and other stakeholders.

Among those present were the Paramount Chief of Kpassa, Ubor Konja Tassan VI, his sub-chiefs, the Chief Imam, the Zongo Chief, the Fulani Chief, the Chairman of the Muslim Council and members of the Muslim community.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Isaiah commended Ubor Konja Tassan VI and the traditional leadership of Kpassa for their collaboration and commitment towards the successful establishment of the market.

He noted that the facility would serve as an important commercial hub, providing opportunities for livestock traders while contributing to the socio-economic development of the district.

He stated that the animal market would significantly improve the availability and accessibility of livestock, reducing the burden on residents who previously had to travel considerable distances to purchase animals for religious festivals, cultural ceremonies and other important occasions.

The DCE further emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to initiatives that promote economic growth, create livelihoods and improve the welfare of residents.

He called on all stakeholders to support the effective management of the market and uphold the principles of peace, discipline and mutual respect to ensure its sustainability.

“The success of this market will depend on the collective commitment of all stakeholders to maintaining order, complying with established regulations, and fostering a conducive environment for business activities,” he stated.

In his remarks, Ubor Konja Tassan VI expressed appreciation to the District Assembly and all partners who contributed to the realization of the project.

He assured traders and community members that clear operational guidelines would be enforced to ensure the orderly management of the facility.

The Paramount Chief stressed that discipline, cooperation and adherence to the market’s regulations were essential for its growth and long-term success, adding that appropriate measures would be taken against individuals who disregard the established rules.

The commissioning of the Kpassa Animal Market is expected to strengthen the livestock value chain, facilitate commercial activities, and position Kpassa as a key livestock trading centre within the Nkwanta North District and the wider Oti Region.
