Kintampo, (Bono East), June 2, GNA-The Kantudu Wangara Youth Association at Kintampo in the Bono East Region has marked its fifth anniversary with a on the government to tackle the growing youth unemployment in the country.

Mr Salifu Fuseini, the Chairman of the Association who made the call expressed worry that most of the youth with unskilled labour were now frustrated in life because of joblessness and urged the government’s intervention.

Speaking at a ceremony to climax the celebration of the anniversary at Kintampo, he noted that: “When the youth get decent jobs, they serve as the engine for community growth and development”.

The anniversary was on the theme: “Empowering youth, building community, celebrating five years of excellence”.

“In fact, it’s sad that many of the youth who are unskilled also lack job opportunities to contribute meaningfully to development”, Mr Fuseini stated.

He emphasised that without job opportunities young people become liabilities and attributed the rise of youth substance abuse and illicit drug use, alcoholism, and acts of lawlessness partly to unemployment.

Mr Fuseini advised the community members to promote and strengthen the prevailing peace and unity in the area, saying that the absence of peace thwarted socio-economic development.

Masaba Yusif Koulibaly Fanyanimah III, the President of National Council of Wangara Chiefs commended the Association for its continuous volunteerism and dedication towards strengthening peace, unity, and development.

“The peaceful celebration of the annual Benkadi Kurubi festival is as an example of the impact of the association we are feeling here”, he stated, and urged the youth to remain disciplined and learn employable skills training to build their future.

Masaba Fanyanimah III also advised the students in the area to concentrate on their books and remain studious as future leaders as well as respect their teachers and school authorities.

He called for effective stakeholder collaboration to deepen the prevailing peace of the area and thereby push the holistic development of the Kintampo in particular, and the Bono East Region in general.

The event brought together traditional leaders, community members and stakeholders and reflected on the association’s achievement, as well as devised strategies towards creating job opportunities for the youth in the area.
