Kadjebi (O/R), June 24, GNA – Residents of Kadjebi in the Oti Region erupted in celebration on Tuesday night after Ghana’s Black Stars secured a goalless draw against England in their second Group L match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

The result keeps Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage alive.

The township came alive immediately after the final whistle, as jubilant supporters blew vuvuzelas, sounded vehicle horns, danced through the principal streets, and sang patriotic songs in praise of the Black Stars.

Many football enthusiasts described the result as a morale-boosting performance against one of the tournament favourites, and commended the team’s discipline, determination, and resilient defending throughout the match.

Mr Godsway Dorhame, a football enthusiast, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Black Stars demonstrated courage and tactical discipline against a strong English side.

“We knew England would dominate possession, but our players remained focused and defended resolutely. This draw feels like a victory because it has kept our qualification hopes alive,” he said.

Mr Samuel Gyapong, another football fan, said the players deserved commendation for their fighting spirit.

“They played with confidence and showed the world that Ghana can compete with any football nation. If they maintain this level of performance, I believe they can progress to the next stage,” he added.

Ms Delight Akey, a supporter, said the result had brought joy to many Ghanaians.

“We are proud of the Black Stars. They made us happy tonight, and we hope they will build on this performance in their final group match,” she said.

Some residents who watched the match at various viewing centres said the atmosphere throughout the game was tense, but excitement erupted at the final whistle as supporters celebrated what they described as a hard-earned point against England.

The Black Stars will now shift attention to their final Group L fixture, where victory could strengthen their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
