Accra, June 15, GNA — Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku says the Black Stars are “fit, focused, and ready” to make the nation proud as they prepare for their opening match against Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

The Leicester City forward expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, pointing to a positive atmosphere in camp and steady progress in training ahead of the Group stage encounter.

“So far, so good. The energy in camp is great, and everyone is ready. Training is going well and we’re just getting ready. Personally, I’ve enjoyed the sessions. It’s positive — I can see the changes. We’re getting fit and getting ready for the game,” Issahaku told Ghana Football Association website.

Ghana, who would be making their fifth appearance at the World cup, are aiming for a strong start and for Issahaku it was a privilege to represent Ghana on the world stage once again having featured at the 2022 World cup.

“I feel amazing because it’s always a dream come true to be part of a World Cup team,” he said. “I’m privileged to be part of this team, and this is my second time. The first time was about experience and I learnt a lot. Now I’m going to put in everything to help the team get to a better position.”

The 22-year-old winger believes the team’s current level of preparation and unity could play a key role in their campaign.

“Looking at the team, I have so much confidence in the guys,” he added. “Everyone is ready and the training we’re doing is helping. I think it’s going to make us fitter, improve us, and help the team move forward.”

Issahaku also called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team as they seek to make an impact on the global stage.

“My message to Ghanaians is simple: keep the support and keep praying for us,” he said. “We’ll be here working hard to make you proud.”

Ghana would face Panama in their opening fixture on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the BMO Field in Toronto.

The match kicks off at 23:00 GMT.
