Ve-Golokwati (V/R), Sept. 11, GNA – Work on the 24-Hour Economy Market in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region has commenced.
Mr Mamtaz Quaye, Chief Executive Officer of Limat Construction Limited and contractor for the project, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the project site that the market was scheduled for completion within two and a half years.
He said the project had reached the sub-structural stage, involving excavation of pits, installation works and block laying.
Mr Quaye indicated that the only challenge currently facing the project was the weather, which was slowing the pace of work.
He, however, expressed optimism that work would progress steadily to meet the stipulated completion period.
The project is sited between Ve-Gbodome and Ve-Golokwati, close to the Police barrier and the Afadzato South District Assembly.
The 24-Hour Economy Market is an initiative championed by President John Dramani Mahama.
The initiative is expected to provide modern infrastructure to support traders and businesses to operate beyond traditional hours, thereby increasing productivity and income levels.
When completed, the market is anticipated to unlock new opportunities for traders within the district and strengthen the local economy.
It is also expected to position Afadzato South as a key commercial hub in the Volta Region.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Manfred Tawiah, expressed appreciation to the President for his visionary leadership and commitment to implementing practical, people-centred policies aimed at improving livelihoods and driving inclusive economic growth.
