Akyireba Academy organises football gala

Adaklu Kodzobi (V/R), June 15 GNA – Akyireba Academy at the weekend organised a two-day football gala at Adaklu Kodzobi in the Volta region. 

According to Mr Felix Afedo, an official of the Academy, the aim of the gala was to hunt for players for the Academy and also market them globally. 

Ten teams took part in the competition. 

They were Kpedze Eleven Wise, Digital FC, Master Minds FC, Sustained Academy, and ACZ Zurich. 

The others have Young Eagles, Storm Warriors FC, Blaq FC, Asogli FC and HASU United. 

Have Young Eagles defeated HASU United 3 -1 on penalties in the finals when both teams couldn’t break the deadlock in regulation time to emerge winners of the competition. 

For their prize, the Young Eagles took home a giant cup (trophy), medals, a set of jerseys, a football and GHS2,500 Ghana. 

HASU United were also given medals, a set of jerseys, football, and 1,500 Ghana Cedis whilst Blaq FC who took the third position took home two footballs and GHS500. 

Before reaching the finals, Have Young Eagles defeated AC Zurich 1 – 0 whilst HASU United also beat Blaq FC 3 – 0 to reach the final. 

Blaq FC defeated AC Zurich 3 – 0 to take the third position. 

Adem Giant of AC Zurich was declared the best player of the tournament whilst the best goalkeeper position went to Aziedu Michael of Have Young Eagles. 

Akwetey of Blaq FC was declared the top scorer of the tournament with three goals and Mr. Freeman Amedor coach of Have Young Eagles was declared the best coach of the tournament. 

Togbe Dzegblade IV, who was the guest of honour praised the organisers for their vision and efforts to hunt for latent football talents in the rural arears. 

He told the players to be disciplined and listen to the advice of their coaches and team officials if they wanted to go far in their football career. 

Togbe Dzegblade reminded them that football was no longer a recreational activity but a professional career which when pursued with passion and dedication could make them a superstar.
