Government imposes curfew on Nkwanta South communities to maintain public safety

Dambai (O/R) June 19, GNA–The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has imposed a curfew on selected communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region. 

The curfew will take effect from 1700 to 0600 hours daily, beginning June 19, 2026. 

The affected communities are Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo Junction, Shiari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta township. 

A statement issued by the Ministry appealed to Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and residents of the affected communities to exercise restraint and adopt non-violent means in addressing issues confronting the Municipality. 

The statement urged all stakeholders to contribute towards efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and social cohesion in the area. 

The government has also imposed a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the affected communities. 

It warned that any person found in possession of arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. 

The Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the protection of lives and property, while security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew and related measures to safeguard public safety.
