Adaklu Waya animal market blossomed to a fledging bazaar

Adaklu Waya (V/R), June 19, GNA – The Adaklu Waya Animal market which was started purposely for selling animals has blossomed to a fledging market. 

The market which was set up in December, 2015 comes on every Thursday in a week. 

Alhaji Abdulai Nuhu Bari, one of the leaders in the market disclosed this when the Ghana News Agency Thursday visited the market. 

He intimidated that Thursday was strategically chosen as the market to help those who needed animals for their funerals and other engagements to get them. 

He noted that apart from the animals which the market started with, food items clothing, cosmetics and agricultural inputs were being sold in the market. 

Alhaji Bari mentioned the other items sold in the market as stationery, provisions, footwear, cooking utensils, mats and electrical gadgets. 

He stated that traders from all over the Volta region, parts of the Eastern, Central and Greater Accra regions could now be found in the market. 

Also, Alhaji Bari said some traders also came from as far as Togo and Benin to the market. 

He called for the expansion of the market saying “the traders have outnumbered the market space.” 

Alhaji Bari named security and car park as some of their challenges in the market. 

He appealed to his colleagues not to be carrying huge sums of money along with them but rather deposit them in their MoMo wallet. 

Alhaji Bari also appealed to them to always close early from the market. 

A survey conducted by the GNA in the market revealed that prices of cows ranged between 20,000 and 8,000 Ghana Cedis. 

Sheep is between GHS2,000 and GHS1,500 whilst goats cost between GHS1,200 and GHS800. 

A source close to the Adaklu District Assembly who chose to remain anonymous told the GNA that the Assembly relied heavily on the market for its revenue. 

He stated that revenue generated from the market every Thursday ranged between GHS5,000 and GHS6,000.
