PARIS, July 13 (Xinhua/GNA) – A wildfire that broke out on Sunday in the Fontainebleau forest in France’s Seine-et-Marne department, southeast of Paris, had burned nearly 1,000 hectares by Monday and remained out of control, according to French authorities.
Nearly 1,000 hectares, or about 5 percent of the Fontainebleau forest, have burned since Sunday, Julien Marion, director general of Civil Security and Crisis Management, told a press briefing on Monday.
Marion added that nearly 250 wildfire outbreaks had been recorded across France on Sunday alone.
In a report released on Monday, Meteo-France said temperatures had continued to rise over the weekend and remained very high at the start of this week. It warned that the combination of extreme heat and dry soils was creating an exceptional wildfire risk across the country.
Also on Monday, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said 32,000 hectares had burned in France since the beginning of the year, exceeding the total area burned during the entire 2025 wildfire season.
