Accra, June 6, GNA – Mrs Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong, the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has called on engineering professionals, contractors, and facility managers among other industry stakeholders to support the implementation of the Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS) to strengthen fire safety compliance nationwide.
She said the successful rollout of the digital platform would depend on the collective commitment, collaboration and adherence of all stakeholders to established fire safety standards.
AFCAS is designed to transform fire safety regulation in Ghana by replacing cumbersome paper-based procedures with a transparent, efficient and technology-driven system.
Addressing a stakeholder engagement in Accra, Mrs Ntow-Sapong said the platform would modernise and streamline fire safety approval processes, making them more accessible, reliable and responsive to the needs of the construction and development sectors.
“The safety of our homes, workplaces, industries, educational institutions and public facilities depends on our shared commitment to maintaining the highest standards of fire prevention and protection,” she said.
The Chief Fire Officer commended participants for attending the meeting, describing their presence as a demonstration of their commitment to national development and public safety.
She noted that rapid urbanisation, industrialisation and increasing construction activities across the country had heightened the need for a modern and responsive fire safety regulatory framework capable of meeting emerging demands.
The AFCAS, she noted, would significantly reduce delays associated with fire certification processes while improving communication and collaboration between the Ghana National Fire Service and key industry actors, including developers, consultants, contractors and facility managers.
Mrs Ntow-Sapong explained that the system would help ensure that fire safety requirements were incorporated into the planning and execution of projects such as schools, offices, churches, factories and other public infrastructure.
She stressed that public safety was a shared responsibility and the quality of electrical installations, mechanical systems and engineering practices played a critical role in safeguarding lives and property.
“It is important for all practitioners and service providers to understand the applicable standards, comply with them and remain committed to their professional responsibilities,” she said.
The CFO described the engagement as a valuable platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, address concerns, clarify operational procedures and deepen their understanding of the AFCAS platform and its benefits.
She reiterated the ultimate objective of AFCAS, which was to strengthen fire safety governance, improve regulatory compliance and foster safer communities across the country, and urged stakeholders to become ambassadors of fire safety by championing compliance, professionalism and accountability within their respective sectors.
“Together, we can build a safer nation where lives, property and investments are adequately protected through effective fire safety management,” she said.
