ACGM, UMaT sign MoU for multidisciplinary industrial training

Accra, June 09, GNA – The Association of China-Ghana Mining LBG (ACGM) is partnering the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, for multidisciplinary industrial training.

The collaboration also aims to ensure the promotion of scholarship towards the training and human resource development of both parties.

This was contained in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the ACGM and MoU over the weekend, in Accra, establishing formal links to further promote Sino-Ghanaian relationship in the extractive sector.

Mr Jinquan Wang, Chairman of the Association, and also the Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd (a subsidiary of Shandong Gold Group), led the ACGM delegation.

Other officials present at the programme were Mr Vincent Sun, the Vice President, Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd, and representatives of the Zijin Golden Ridge Limited, Golden Star (Wassa) Ltd (a subsidiary of Chifeng Gold Group), and other established companies.

Dr Jamel Seidu, Head of the Geological and Environmental Engineering Department, represented Professor Richard Kwasi Amankwah, the Vice Chancellor of UMaT.

Messrs Joseph Frimpong, and Ben Birch Mensah, represented the Minerals Commission of Ghana (MINCOM). 

The MoU forms part of efforts to enhance development through knowledge sharing and technology transfer, while bridging the academia-industry gap.

Designed to be in force for an initial period of four (4) years, the pact spells out the vision to undertake joint collaborative research for the mutual benefits of both parties.

It serves as a broad framework of collaboration in the designing of short courses and practical training programmes for the staff of ACGM to upgrade the manpower requirements vis-a-vis mining business of the Association. 

Dr Seidu, speaking on behalf of the University, affirmed the institution’s commitment to implementing the terms of agreement.

He said per the terms of agreement, the University would assist in identifying and recommending students for internship with ACGM.

Additionally, the University is to assist in identifying and recommending students for scholarship with the Association.

Dr Seidu lauded the Association for agreeing to avail its facilities to UMaT students and graduate trainees/interns for training based on requirements as prescribed by the miners.

The ACGM was officially inaugurated in 2025 to unite major Chinese mining companies and mining services companies in Ghana to promote responsible mining, enhance industry cooperation, and support investment.

They  include Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd (a subsidiary of Shandong Gold Group), Golden Star (Wassa) Ltd (a subsidiary of Chifeng Gold Group), Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMC), JH Resources Exploration Ghana Company Ltd, Earl International Group (Ghana) Gold Ltd, Auxin Ghana, Setters Investment Limited and Huawei.
