Tamale, June 19, GNA – Professor Raymond Adongo, Head, Hospitality and Eco-Tourism Department, University for Development Studies has underscored need for excellence, innovation, skills development and sustainability to drive the growth and competitiveness of Ghana’s hospitality and tourism industry.
He said as the industry continued to evolve in response to global trends and changing customer expectations, stakeholders must embrace international standards, technological advancement and continuous capacity building to remain relevant and competitive in the global market.
Professor Adongo made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tamale during the 13th Delegates Conference of the Institute of Hospitality Ghana held under the theme: “Leading Progress in Hospitality and Tourism: Innovation, Sustainability and Green Technology”.
He noted that the hospitality industry remained one of the few sectors capable of creating employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for graduates, stressing that the skills acquired in the industry enabled individuals to establish and sustain their own businesses.
He described hospitality as more than service delivery and said it was fundamentally about creating memorable experiences that encouraged customer loyalty and repeat patronage.
He said ”The future of the hospitality and tourism industry is bright but it will depend on the ability of stakeholders to embrace excellence, innovation, sustainability and strategic partnership to drive long-term growth and resilience.”
He emphasised that industry players must adapt to emerging trends and leverage technology to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
He called for stronger collaboration between academia and industry, explaining that such partnerships were essential to bridging the gap between theory and practice.
