Asemko (W/R), Oct. 06, GNA – Mr Paul Kodwo Kwaw, Assembly Member for the Kikam/Asemko Electoral Area, has commended the Ghana News Agency (GNA) for highlighting the infrastructural challenges of the Asemko District Assembly (D/A) Basic School, which he said contributed to the construction of a six-unit classroom block for the school.
He said the GNA publication brought the concerns of the school to the attention of duty-bearers, resulting in a swift response and the award of a contract for a six-unit classroom block with a computer laboratory, staff common room and toilet facility.
Mr Kwaw disclosed this to the GNA during a recent inspection of the project by Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle.
He expressed delight at the award of the contract by the Ellembelle District Assembly following the intervention of Mr Armah-Kofi Buah.
The GNA, on February 08, 2026, published a story headlined: “Stakeholders appeal for infrastructural support for Asemko DA Basic School.”
The story highlighted the plight of pre-school children who were receiving lessons on the verandas of dilapidated structures, exposing them to unfavourable weather conditions, particularly during rainstorms.
Mr Kwaw said stakeholders, including the Chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC) and himself, had been engaging the District Assembly for the project.
He said officials of the Assembly later informed him that Mr Armah-Kofi Buah had directed that a contract be awarded for the construction of the six-unit classroom block and ancillary facilities for the Asemko D/A Basic School.
Mr Kwaw said the MP, who had read the GNA story, reportedly told Assembly officials that the “media was on his neck” and impressed upon them to include the Asemko D/A Basic School project in the “budget by all means.”
He commended the GNA for visiting the school and highlighting its challenges to bring them to the attention of duty-bearers.
Mr Kwaw said work on the project commenced in August this year and was initially expected to be completed within six months.
He said the structure had reached the roofing stage.
The contractor, however, assured the stakeholders that the classroom block would be completed within three months, ahead of schedule, considering the urgent infrastructural needs of the school.
