Accra, Oct. 6, GNA – The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has met about 2,500 church leaders to brief them on preparations for the 10th Triennial World Congress of the Assemblies of God Fellowship.
The briefing on the Congress, scheduled to take place in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026, brought together deacons, deaconesses and departmental leaders of Assemblies of God, Ghana.
Rev. Wengam outlined the roles expected of the laity in ensuring the success of the World Congress, which is being hosted in Africa for the first time in the 115-year history of the Assemblies of God worldwide.
The Congress is on the theme: “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation.”
He said morning sessions would be held at the Black Star Square to build the capacity of pastors and church leaders, while evening gospel revival rallies would take place at the Accra Sports Stadium and would be open to members of all Christian denominations at no cost.
Renowned gospel artistes, including Joe Mettle of Ghana, Dunsin Oyekan and Sinach of Nigeria, as well as Angela Donadio from the United States, are expected to minister at the evening rallies.
Rev. Wengam urged members of the church to actively participate in the activities lined up for the Congress to justify the selection of Ghana and Africa as host and ensure the success of the historic gathering.
He noted that with a membership of about 89.9 million, Assemblies of God remained the largest Protestant denomination in the world.
According to him, the Congress would also deliberate on strategies to establish one million additional churches under the MM33 Agenda as part of activities marking 2,000 years since the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Mr. Fred Darko, Vice Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, said extensive preparations were underway to deliver a world-class event.
Rev. Andrews Awintia, Chairman of the Planning Committee, briefed participants on arrangements being made to provide transportation for attendees.
The Assistant General Superintendent, Rev. Kwadwo Boateng Bempah, appealed for financial support towards the Congress budget and encouraged pastors and members to contribute generously.
The General Secretary, Rev. Albert Anane, led participants in prayers for the successful organisation and outcome of the World Congress.
