Accra, June 16, GNA– Ghana and Burkina Faso have begun a week-long series of bilateral engagements intended to advance the reaffirmation and joint management of their common land boundary.

The engagements underscore the commitment of both countries to peaceful coexistence, cross-border cooperation, and regional integration.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ghana Boundary Commission on Tuesday, said engagement activities started on Monday, June 15,2026, in Pô, Burkina Faso, with the meeting of the Joint Land Boundary Technical Committee.

The meetings are expected to culminate in the signing of official documents in Pô and the relaunch of the Joint Ghana–Burkina Faso Land Boundary Reaffirmation Exercise at Dakola on June 22, 2026.

The statement said the engagements followed three Framework Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding signed by the Foreign Ministers of Ghana and Burkina Faso in February this year to facilitate joint boundary management.

The scheduled activities include: The Meeting of the Joint Technical Committee for the Review of Modalities and Roadmap for the Reaffirmation of the Common Land Boundary (June 15–21), the Meeting to Review the Framework for Consultation between Burkina Faso’s Nazinon, Nando, Djoro and Nakambe Regions and Ghana’s Upper East, Upper West and Savannah Regions (June 18–21), the Inauguration of the Joint Ghana–Burkina Faso Land Boundary Technical Committee (June 21) and the Relaunch of the Joint Ghana–Burkina Faso Land Boundary Reaffirmation (June 22).

During the opening session, Major General Anthony Ntem, the Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, described the engagements as a milestone in the longstanding cooperation between the two countries.

He stressed that the process went beyond technical and legal reviews, representing a shared commitment to deepen cooperation, promote peaceful coexistence, and enhance effective boundary management.

Major General Ntem emphasized that one of the key outcomes would be the development of a comprehensive roadmap to guide the reaffirmation process.

“The roadmap would serve as a strategic blueprint for future engagements by defining the scope of work, identifying resource requirements, establishing timelines and providing mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating progress,” he explained.

The Permanent Secretary of Burkina Faso’s National Boundary Secretariat, Mr. Fidele Gouem, underscored the strong historical and cultural ties binding the peoples of Ghana and Burkina Faso.

He expressed appreciation to both boundary institutions and the political leadership of the two countries for their commitment to strengthening cooperation and improving development prospects for communities along the common boundary.

The relaunch of the reaffirmation exercise on June 22 is expected to be attended by Ministers responsible for Territorial Administration and Lands and Natural Resources from both countries, Ambassadors, regional ministers, traditional authorities, and other dignitaries.

It will signal renewed political commitment to peaceful boundary management and further strengthen bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
