Nandom (UW/R), Sept. 4, GNA – Mr Alois Mohl, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nandom Constituency Parliamentary Candidate hopeful, has urged delegates to choose parliamentary candidates based on competence, loyalty and the ability to create opportunities rather than the financial strength of candidates.
He said the NPP’s parliamentary primaries should not become a contest of wealth and warned that allowing money to determine who becomes a parliamentary candidate can undermine the principles and philosophy of the party.
Mr Mohl said this at the official declaration of his intention to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Nandom Constituency when the process starts.
He said: “It is very refreshing, but sad, that today NPP in Nandom is so attractive that I hear some people say that only those with money will be parliamentary candidates. Really!
“Let us be careful, otherwise, very soon, strangers will come with cash and hijack this party and destroy the principles that underpin our party’s philosophy.”
He explained that the fundamental principle of the NPP is to create opportunities for individuals to become prosperous, rather than encourage people to display their wealth as a basis for political leadership.
He stressed that his interest in the contest is to use his ideas, experience and networks to create opportunities for the people rather than win support by distributing money.
“My wealth is not paper money or hard currency wealth. My wealth is social capital. That is the kind of wealth Nandom needs, so that they can be assisted to grow their own wealth, Mr Mohl said
He added: I want to win as your parliamentary candidate because I have rich ideas that can make you prosperous, and not because I would have given you plenty of money.”
He observed that leadership is critical to the fortunes of the party in the Nandom Constituency, particularly following its loss of the seat in the 2024 elections, which he attributed partly to unresolved misunderstandings within the party.
Mr Mohl, therefore, argued that the NPP needed a change in leadership to rebuild unity and position itself to win back the constituency in 2028 and said he will restore unity and rebuild the Party by putting the collective interest of the party above his personal interest if elected.
He said his record of working for the party, including his involvement in grassroots mobilisation, reconciliation and welfare activities, demonstrated his commitment to the NPP beyond electoral contests.
He pledged to pursue a leadership style that listens to members, acts on their concerns and delivers results.
As part of his vision for the party, Mr Mohl proposed a welfare scheme for Party delegates in the constituency and a rapid response and reconciliation team to identify, mediate and resolve disputes at polling station levels.
He also identified education, health, agriculture and social welfare as the four key areas that would receive attention if he becomes the Member of Parliament of the area.
