Tehran, Sept 4 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – Iran has destroyed air defense systems at US bases in the Middle East, making it easier to launch attacks against Israel, Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said on Friday.
The spokesman’s remarks came amid threats by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who on Thursday said that Israel would strike all of Iran’s national military and civilian infrastructure, including energy infrastructure, if Tehran launched a preemptive attack.
“The destruction of air defense systems means that the path for our missiles and drones to the occupied territories [as Iran refers to Israel] is open, and striking … bases in these areas has now become much easier,” Akraminia was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency.
He added that Iran retaliated to recent US attacks by striking and destroying US air defense and radar systems at its bases in the region. He also said that Iran would conduct “preemptive operations” if it perceived a threat.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said late on Tuesday that the nighttime strikes targeted facilities linked to the IRGC, as well as air defense systems, radar installations, maritime assets and communications facilities. Iran retaliated by striking US military infrastructure in several Middle Eastern countries.
